MetroConnects Experienced a Sanitary Sewer Overflow Due to a Faulty Bypass Pump Discharge Line

Metropolitan Sewer Subdistrict (MetroConnects) experienced a sanitary sewer overflow due to a break in a bypass discharge line at a pump station located at 250 Griffin Road, Piedmont.
MetroConnects responded to the overflow and made repairs to the discharge line on Sunday, February 6, 2022. The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has been notified of the spill.
Residents are encouraged to avoid contact with the water at Antioch Branch Tributary to Huff Creek, which runs from Michelin Road to Griffin Road, until testing is completed to confirm that bacteria levels have returned to normal.
This event did NOT affect MetroConnects’ ability to provide sewer service to the area and did NOT affect the drinking water.
Caution signs are being posted downstream of the spill.
